KIA Picanto 3rd Generation Receives A Striking Second Facelift

If you're in the market for a compact, entry-level city car, the Kia Picanto should be on your radar. The Kia Picanto, also known as the Kia Morning in South Korea, is the smallest model in Kia's lineup and has gained popularity among younger and first-time car buyers. With its stylish design and affordable pricing, the Picanto has become a top choice in the A-segment city car market.

The current generation of the Picanto, which has been in production since 2017, recently received its second facelift to keep it fresh and relevant in the ever-evolving automotive industry. Although the newest iteration of the Picanto may not be available in Pakistan just yet, it's worth exploring the updates and features it offers.

Exterior

The Picanto boasts a revamped design inspired by Kia's "Opposite United" design philosophy. It features a new tiger-nose grille, vertically stacked headlight modules with DRLs, and a redesigned front bumper and bonnet. The rear of the car has also undergone changes, including a new LED lighting configuration and a redesigned bumper. The overall result is a modern, bolder, and sportier appearance.

Interior

Inside the cabin, the Picanto received minor updates but maintains its previous layout. However, Kia promises improved materials and more standard features. The infotainment system now includes an 8-inch screen with updated software. Higher trim levels offer features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Kia Connect, which provides onboard services such as live traffic updates, weather information, and car diagnostics. The interior also offers a digital instrument cluster, upgraded navigation system with over-the-air updates, and various convenience features like heated seats and a wireless charger.

Engine

Under the hood, the Picanto is equipped with two engine options: a 1.0L MPI three-cylinder engine and a 1.2L MPI four-cylinder engine. Power figures haven't been disclosed, but the 1.0L engine is expected to deliver around 66hp, while the 1.2L variant should provide around 83hp. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic. Notably, the turbocharged 1.0L engine available in the previous model is no longer offered.

Safety Features

Safety features have also been enhanced in the facelifted Picanto. It now includes advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, and Lane Following Assist. The car's structural integrity and stiffness have been improved, and it comes equipped with a range of safety technologies such as vehicle stability control, cornering brake control, hill start assist, and seven airbags.

While the updated Picanto may not be immediately available in Pakistan, it's important to note that KIA Pakistan has plans to introduce 15 new electrified models as part of their brand restructuring in the coming years. The Picanto's replacement is expected to be an electric vehicle. Pricing details for the refreshed Picanto have yet to be announced by Kia Global, but it is estimated to have a base price of around $20,000 in international markets.
